(Pocket-lint) – Paramount+ has launched in the UK. The new streaming service is home to Star Trek, the TV series Halo, and many more shows and films. It’s also free for many Sky Q and Sky Glass customers.
The service normally costs £6.99 a month and is at no extra cost for Sky Cinema subscribers. In addition, after activating a Paramount+ account through Sky, you can use all mobile, web and TV apps.
Alternatively, if you are not a Sky Cinema subscriber, you can continue to watch Paramount+ content through the app on your Sky device.
Here’s how to set it up.
How to set up Paramount+ on Sky Q and Sky Glass
Paramount+ is now available for both Sky Q and Sky Glass. To set it up, either locate the app in the Apps section of the home screen, or use voice by saying “Paramount Plus” to either your voice remote or on Sky Glass to the TV’s microphone (by saying “Hello Sky” first ).
Once opened, the app offers two options: “Get Paramount+” and “Sign in with Paramount+“.
If you are a Sky Cinema subscriber, click “Get Paramount+“. If you just want to subscribe to Paramount+ separately, go to paramountplus.com, create an account, come back and click the other option to enter your credentials.
Sky users clicking “Get Paramount+” will bring up a screen with a QR code that you can scan with a tablet or phone. There’s also a web address if you prefer to use a PC. This will take you to a Sky.com page where you can download Paramount+ with activate your Sky-ID .
Once done, you will be taken to Paramount+ itself to create your free account.
Return to your Sky device, open the Paramount+ app again and this time click “Sign in with Paramount+“.
Enter your newly created details and off you go. You can also create profiles for the whole family, including age-specific profiles for children.
Having trouble setting up Paramount+ on Sky Q or Sky Glass and getting an error?
Some Sky customers are reporting that they are getting an error message when trying to activate the free Paramount+ account.
It’s by demand, as Sky itself posted on its website.
We initially got the same thing and, as suggested by Sky, found that trying again a little later worked for us. We made it about 10-15 minutes after our first attempt.
Is Paramount+ available on Now or Sky Go?
Unfortunately, you cannot link a Paramount+ account to your Now subscription even if you have a Cinema membership.
And like other third-party streaming services, you can’t access Paramount+ through Sky Go. However, you can use the dedicated Paramount+ app on the same devices.
However, due to a deal between Sky and Paramount, you’ll find a whole host of new Paramount-owned movies available to stream on both the Now and Sky Go movie channels.
