(Pocket-lint) – Microsoft is about to add mouse and keyboard support to its Cloud Gaming with Xbox Game Pass service.

It currently only allows gamepad or touch controls (on mobile devices), allowing the service to offer a wider range of games with the addition of support for PC accessories.

The company announced the move in March when the leader of the team behind Microsoft Flight Simulator informed the community that it was being worked on.

Now we seem to be on the verge of the first supported games coming to the platform: “Xbox has had keyboard and mouse support for a number of years and we’re working on adding it to streaming for PC users,” explained one from Microsoft Cloud Gaming -Engineers Morgan Brown for developers in a video presentation.

“You can start adding it to your game right away, and your console keyboard and mouse users will appreciate it.” It will light up in streaming once we add it.”

The support will benefit some of the existing games on Xbox Cloud Gaming, like the Flight Simulator mentioned above, but also allow for the addition of many PC strategy games – ones that don’t typically work as well with a gamepad.

We might even see some first-person shooters offering the option.
