(Pocket-lint) – There are some big days for online sales throughout the year, one of which is Amazon Prime Day. Prime Day usually occurs mid-year and is a great time to snag great deals through Amazon across a range of devices including the Apple Watch and other smartwatches.

Discounts on the Apple Watch can be rare, but they do exist, and if you don’t have an iPhone and prefer a Samsung smartwatch or other Wear OS smartwatch instead, there are usually deals across the board, from practical to practical and fashionable.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Apple Watch and smartwatch deals we’re expecting for Prime Day 2022.

Which devices are likely to be discounted on Prime Day?

During Prime Day there are usually discounts from a number of smartwatch manufacturers including Apple, Samsung, Fossil and Michael Kors.

If you’re looking for an Apple Watch, there’s a good chance there’s some discounts on the latest model on Prime Day when something is over last year and the early deals are showing. The latest model is the Apple Watch Series 7, which launched in September 2021, although it’s quite similar to the Series 6 in terms of features. So if you can find better deals on the 2020 model, you’re just really missing out on a bigger display by going for this model.

For those who don’t have an iPhone, past Prime Day sales have also included discounts on Samsung’s excellent smartwatches, as well as fashion forward options from Fossil and Michael Kors.

When is Prime Day 2022?

Good question. Typically, Amazon Prime Day took place in summer, around June or July. In 2019 it was held on July 15, but in 2020 it was postponed to October 13-14. In 2021 it returned to summer, albeit a little earlier than 2019, which took place on June 21st and 22nd.

For 2022, Amazon has confirmed that Prime Day will take place on July 12-13. The 48-hour event starts at 00:01 (GMT) on July 12 and lasts until 23:59 on July 13. The Prime Day sales often offer similar deals to the Black Friday sales later in the year, although they’re exclusive to Amazon and don’t run through a number of retailers.

Are there any real deals on Prime Day?

Yes, there are real deals during Prime Day sales, and you can often find devices at the lowest prices they could have been in several months, although that doesn’t mean the deals will be the lowest prices they’ve ever had. On other sales days like Black Friday, there will also have been discounts on some of the devices.

While the Prime Day deals are competitive and you often get a decent discount on some devices. However, remember that you don’t have as much time as with other sales like the Black Friday sales. So if you see a deal, grab it 24 hours later, the price will likely revert back to its original retail price.

Do I have to be a Prime member?

You must indeed be a Prime member to take advantage of Prime Day sales. That’s one of the caveats. If you want access to the best prices offered during Prime Day, you need to make sure you have your Prime subscription ready.

For those who don’t have a Prime membership, it’s worth trying the 30-day free trial to try out some of the other perks you get with Amazon Prime, like free delivery, Prime Video, Prime Music, Prime Reading, and more.
