(Pocket-lint) – ViacomCBS replaced CBS All Access with Paramount+ in March 2021.
It has since been introduced outside of North America, such as in the UK and Ireland.
Here’s what you need to know about the streaming service, including where it’s available, how much it costs, and what content it offers.
What is Paramount+?
Paramount+ began as a rebrand of CBS All Access, a live TV subscription service CBS launched in 2014.
However, it has since become a competitor in its own right to Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+.
Paramount+ is unique because it offers content from the combined ViacomCBS network, which includes properties such as Paramount, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET and Comedy Central.
ViacomCBS also owns the free Pluto TV streaming service and the Showtime network (the latter appearing as an in-app area on the UK version of Paramount+).
When was Paramount+ launched?
Paramount+ launched March 4, 2021 in the Americas. It subsequently arrived in South Korea on June 16, 2022 and in the UK and Ireland on June 22.
There are plans to expand it to Germany, Italy and Austria via Sky later in 2022. It will also be launched as a standalone service in Switzerland this year and in India in 2023.
How much does Paramount+ cost?
- Premium (no ads except on live channels): $9.99 per month
- Essential (has ads and drops your local live CBS): $4.99 per month
- In the United Kingdom: £6.99 a month or no extra cost for Sky Cinema subscribers with Sky Q or Sky Glass
Paramount+ costs $9.99 per month or $99.99 annually to stream ad-free in the US. This “Premium” plan includes everything on Paramount+, including live streams from the local CBS Network channels (but there is advertising on the live channels). Paramount+ also costs $4.99 per month or $49.99 annually for an “essential” plan. The essential plan includes ads and removes access to your local live CBS station.
With the Essential plan, NFL on CBS and the UEFA Champions League will continue to be available on separate live feeds.
Note: You can also get the Essential plan with Showtime for $11.99 per month. Again, the essential plan doesn’t include your local live CBS station. If you want your local live CBS station, get the premium plan. You can also get the premium plan with Showtime for $14.99 per month.

In the UK, Paramount+ costs £6.99 per month or £69.90 annually. It’s also available at no additional cost to Sky Q and Sky Glass customers who subscribe to Sky Cinema.
Where is Paramount+ available?
Paramount+ was first launched in the US, Canada and Latin America. In Latin America, Paramount+ is available in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Paramount+ is also available in the UK, Ireland, Hungary, Russia, South Korea and the Middle East.
It’s coming to Austria, Germany and Italy via Sky later in 2022. Switzerland will receive it later this year, while India will receive Paramount+ in 2023.
It is available on Sky platforms in the UK (Sky also continue to carry ViacomCBS pay-TV channels such as Comedy Central) as well as via a standalone app. Sky Cinema subscribers receive Paramount+ at no additional cost.
What can you see on Paramount+?
In the US, Paramount+ offers live sports programming, sports and breaking news, and 30,000 movies and television shows from the broader ViacomCBS network, which includes CBS, Paramount, Nickelodeon, MTV, BET, Comedy Central and the Smithsonian Channel.
The UK version has a lot of that too (apart from live sport or news). It features content from the Showtime channel.
It’s also worth noting that content streaming is currently limited to a maximum of Full HD (1080p) and 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound in the UK. Premium subscribers in the US, on the other hand, get access to some shows and films in 4K HDR (Dolby Vision) and Dolby Atmos.
However, a spokesman for Paramount+ UK told Pocket-lint that “further developments are planned for the future”.
What are some of the key features of Paramount+?
Mobile downloads are available via the dedicated Paramount+ app, but are limited to 25 tracks. It also offers separate profiles – up to six of them – including age-locked child profiles. Paramount+ can be streamed on ParamountPlus.com and on Paramount+ mobile apps for Apple iOS and Android devices. Aside from that, it’s accessible wherever CBS All Access has been supported, including:
