Microsoft has announced that it will end production of its Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition consoles.

The company is preparing to release the new generation Xbox Series X at the end of 2020 and is therefore discontinuing most versions of the Xbox One console. The disc version of the Xbox One S remains in production for now.

microsoft said:

“At Xbox, we’re making massive investments to create the future of gaming – a future that puts the player at the heart of the Xbox experience. We keep making great games for Xbox One. We continue to grow Game Pass, now with more than 10 million members on Xbox console and PC. We’re previewing Project xCloud in 15 countries so players can play with their friends on any device. And we’re working hard on the next generation of console gaming with Xbox Series X – the fastest, most powerful console we’ve ever built, offering backwards compatibility with thousands of Xbox games and all Xbox One accessories. As we move into the future with Xbox Series X, we are taking the natural step of discontinuing production of the Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. Xbox One S continues to be manufactured and sold worldwide. Players can check with their local retailers for more information on Xbox One hardware availability.”

Since the Xbox Series X will be backwards compatible, it might make sense to wait if you’re in the gaming console market. Granted, the new console will be more expensive than the Xbox One, but investing money in an Xbox One is only worth it at this point if you really don’t mind missing out on new titles in a couple of months.
